The St Mary's Old Boys' Association has a long tradition of providing sporting and education facilities for the benefit of the students and wider community.
The most recent project of the Old Boys' is the construction of The Clive Berghofer Arena.
The Clive Berghofer Arena is located in Herries Street, Toowoomba. The Arena is a two court National Standard Indoor Sporting Facility. The Arena provides a venue of national standard for the students and community to participate in Basketball, Netball, Volleyball and Badminton. Students also use the Arena for a range of various sporting activities.
The Arena is used by the College Community for important celebrations including the Annual Inaugural Liturgy, the Annual Presentation Night, the Year 8 Night of the Notables performances and other important College activities.
The Arena is used as a home venue for the St Mary's College Teams in the local Secondary (Term 1) and Primary (Term 4) school basketball competitions. The school community supports their teams in a positive manner during these competitions creating an encouraging school spirit on these occasions.
The Arena has 4 offices in the upper level which are tenanted by local sporting development groups. The Conference Room is a large, airconditioned room with multi-media capacity. It can be used for meetings, seminars and conferences. It is used by the College and local sporting and community organisations. The conference room can be booked by contacting the College Office.
The Clive Berghofer Arena was officially opened on the 27th May 2006 in conjunction with the Old Boys' Brothers Ball which was held at the Indoor Bowls Centre on the night of the 27th May 2006.
The Opening Ceremony included the unveiling of the Honour Board which recognises the valuable contribution made by members of the St Mary's community towards the donation drive that assist the Association in raising the funds necessary to construct this facility.
The Arena has been funded jointly by the State Government and Toowoomba City Council. The St Mary's Old Boys' Association obtained the remainder of the funds through a loan provided by local developer Mr Clive Berghofer. In appreciation for the generous support of Mr Clive Berghofer the Association has named the development The Clive Bergoher Arena.
The Arena is used by the students of the College during the day
and is open to local sporting associations after school on a commerical basis.
