The primary has a parent-teacher evening at the beginning of every year to discuss the year’s events and the routines of each class. Parent –Teacher interviews are held twice a year. Reports are sent home at the end of term and at the end of semester.
If you are concerned about your son’s progress, please seek an interview with his class teacher, the Head of Primary or the Learning Support Teacher.
HOMEWORK
The staff of St Mary’s College Primary greatly believes in the benefits of homework. These benefits include:
- improved retention of factual knowledge;
- improved problem solving skills;
- increased understanding of the curriculum;
- improved organisation, study habits and skills;
- improved attitude towards school;
- improved self discipline and independence; and
- greater desire to gain knowledge.
The amount of homework to be completed varies between classes and the curriculum being covered at a particular time. Students are required to record their homework tasks in their school diaries and the completed homework will be corrected at various times throughout the week. Parents are encouraged to discuss their son’s homework with them to assist them with their learning and have a greater understanding of their progress.
Assignments that reflect the curriculum being covered are set at various times throughout the year. The students have a clear understanding of the assignment requirements and due dates through the thorough criteria sheets provided by the classroom teacher. Parents are once again encouraged to discuss their son’s assignment work with them.
