STEM & Aerospace

STEM education is crucial in today's world as it prepares students for the rapidly advancing technological landscape.

It provides them with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in a variety of fields, including computer science, engineering, and healthcare, among others.

STEM education is also important for students who may not pursue a career in these fields, as it helps them develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills that are essential in today's job market.

At St Mary's College, STEM education is emphasised as it facilitates the development of 21st Century skills such as creativity, communication, teamwork, and collaboration. These skills are necessary for students to tackle complex challenges and make informed decisions, both personally and professionally. Moreover, STEM education fosters a sense of curiosity and a desire to explore and discover the world, which are essential qualities for lifelong learning.

Investing in STEM education is also critical for the economic growth and development of a country. Countries that invest in STEM education have a competitive edge in the global market and attract more foreign investment, leading to increased job opportunities and economic growth. STEM education provides students with a wide range of career opportunities, from traditional STEM fields to emerging areas such as data science, biotechnology, and artificial intelligence.

St Mary's College is committed to promoting STEM education, and our partnership with CSIRO, extra-curricular Future Solutions extension program and participation in various STEM competitions highlights our dedication to providing students with a strong foundation in these subjects. The College also encourages ethical discourse through participation in the Ethics Olympiad schools, promoting respectful and rigorous discussion around interesting and relevant ethical cases.

As a College, we are proud of our STEM education program and look forward to expanding our work in this space in to the future.

Aerospace

Aerospace

St Mary’s College is proud to announce our partnership with Gateway to Industry Aerospace Program.

Under the guidance of our industry partner, Boeing Defence Australia, we aim to provide our students with the best opportunities to learn, work and gain experience in the aerospace industry. As a school located on the doorstep of Wellcamp Airport, we have an obvious advantage, and we are thrilled to be able to share these opportunities with our students.

The school community is excited by the news of this partnership. Being a Gateway to Industry school for Aerospace means more job opportunities, potentially local, national and global aviation opportunities will form part of the choices for our young men.

We believe that this partnership will provide our students with unparalleled access to the aerospace industry and all that it has to offer. We are thrilled to be part of such a fantastic program and to be able to offer our students these exciting opportunities.
