Stronger Together: St Mary’s Mental Health Rugby League Round
On Wednesday 24th June, the St Mary’s community came together in a powerful show of support for mental health, hosting the inaugural Mental Health Rugby League Round in support of the Black Dog Institute.
The day was centred on an important and timely message: breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health and encouraging open, honest conversations. Across the school grounds, students, staff, Old Boys and families were reminded that asking for help is not a sign of weakness, but one of strength. Creating an environment where people feel safe to speak up and seek support remains at the heart of initiatives like this.
Beyond the messages shared, the day also highlighted the strength of connection within the St Mary’s community. From the energy on the football field to the camaraderie at the much-loved Pie in a Bun gathering, it was a wonderful opportunity to welcome back Old Boys, reconnect with former staff, and bring families together. These moments of reconnection reinforced the enduring bonds that make the St Mary’s brotherhood so unique.
The significance of the day extended well beyond the event itself. It served as a reminder that mental health matters every day - not just when it is the focus of a round or initiative. Looking after your mates, checking in on one another, and maintaining strong connections are simple yet powerful ways to support wellbeing across the community.
To our current students, Old Boys, and the wider St Mary’s family, the message is clear: the brotherhood does not end at the school gates. It continues well into life beyond school, grounded in shared experiences, support, and care for one another.
Once a brother, always a brother.
Reach out. Check in. Stay connected.
