SMC Students Prepare for Their First Kokoda Challenge
On 13 June, a team of six determined SMC boys will take on the 48km Kokoda Challenge in the rugged D’Aguilar Forest marking the very first time our College has participated in this iconic event.
The Kokoda Challenge isn’t just a race. It’s one of Australia’s toughest team endurance events, designed to honour the courage, endurance and sacrifice of the Kokoda Track campaign. Completing the course requires resilience, teamwork and a commitment to supporting one another from the first kilometre to the last - values that align strongly with our school’s spirit.
Over the past weeks, the boys have been training hard to build the stamina and mindset needed for the steep climbs, uneven terrain and long hours that await them. Their enthusiasm and dedication have already made this a memorable milestone for SMC, and we’re proud to see them represent our community in such a meaningful way.
As part of participating in the Kokoda Challenge, the team is also fundraising to support youth programs that help build leadership, confidence and resilience in young Australians. These programs change lives and every donation, big or small, helps make a lasting impact.
If you’re able to get behind the boys and show your support, you can contribute here:

The team is incredibly grateful for the encouragement already shown by the SMC community. Let’s continue to rally around them as they take on this significant challenge for the first time.
